Humahuaca<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is the region headwaters and is considered the historical capital of “Humahuaca Canyon<\/strong>“, and heart of carnival.<\/p>\n

Adobe houses, narrow streets and cobblestone, and tranquillity almost anytime, less during carnival (February)<\/p>\n

There is a good variety of museums that show different expressions.<\/p>\n

The Cathedral Church is a\u00a0National Historical Monument<\/strong>\u00a0and contains paints from Cuzco (Inca Capital, Per\u00fa). The\u00a0Monument to Independence<\/strong>, or to the “Indio Calchaqui<\/strong>“, represents the place where he fought in defense of Argentina.<\/p>\n

Uquia<\/h2>\n

In his church rest the remains of\u00a0Pedro Lozano<\/strong>, and kept a collection of paintings cuzque\u00f1as called “Los Angeles arcabuceros<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

Its hills preserved an invaluable paleontological treasure, to preserve remnants of the earliest mammals who emigrated from North america once joined the two continents.<\/p>\n

Huacalera<\/h2>\n

His church was built during eighteenth century, and is a gem of colonial architecture.<\/p>\n

It keeps cuzque\u00f1o paintings like “The Marriage of the Virgin” and “The Baptism of Our Lady”, unique in its theme.<\/p>\n

The school, still standing, dating from 1825.<\/p>\n

Very near the village is located the Tropic of Capricorn monolith, which indicates the place where the imaginary line passes.<\/p>\n

Around the Monolith, December 21 at noon is casts a shadow angles.<\/p>\n

Tilcara<\/h2>\n

Town of significant importance which has museums, craft centers, restaurants, hotels and campsites.<\/p>\n

In summertime, a great feast called “January Tilcare\u00f1o.”<\/p>\n

Maimara<\/h2>\n

In this small town, the highlight is a mountain known as “The Painter’s Palette” reference in their shape and color.<\/p>\n

The cemetery is very interesting, with its architecture of early twentieth century.<\/p>\n

Purmamarca<\/h2>\n

Town reclining on the “Seven colors hill<\/strong>\u00a0“, famous for its unique combination of colors.<\/p>\n

Its urban layout was made around his main Church, that dates back to 1648.<\/p>\n

Near the church can be seen an old carob (Algarrobo), which saw the history of the canyon.<\/p>\n

Volcan<\/h2>\n

His name does not refer to a volcano as he knows.<\/p>\n

“Volcano” is called in the region to large flows of mud falling from the hills during rainy season and they tend to destroy everything that are in its path.<\/p>\n

It has a special charm for his old railway buildings, abandoned today.<\/p>\n

Other natural beauties are “Laguna de Gronda” and Santuyo Waterfall of 20 meters high and located east of town.<\/p>\n
